October Is National Chiropractic Health Month: Feel Your Best All Season at Elizabethton Chiropractic

Oct 05, 2026
Red and gold fall maple leaves

October is here, and it's the prettiest month of the year in our corner of Tennessee. The maples are going red and gold along the Doe River, the ridgelines on Roan and Holston are putting on their show, and every weekend has a fall festival, a church homecoming, or a Friday night game to get to. It's also National Chiropractic Health Month — a good time to step back and ask how your body is really doing heading into the busy stretch between now and the holidays. The days are getting shorter, the weather swings from warm afternoons to chilly mornings, the fall comfort food is back on the table, and the boots are out of the closet for good. This week we're focused on keeping the whole family feeling their best through all of it: Gonstead check-ups for every generation, drug-free help for the headaches that come with fall weather changes, a lift in energy as the days get shorter, whole-food support for digestion during comfort-food season, and a foundation-up fix for a low back that starts with your feet.

Please note: Our office will be closed Thursday, October 22 and Friday, October 23. Please plan your visits accordingly — we appreciate your understanding.

Chiropractic makes me shine - Gonstead chiropractic check-ups for the whole family

A Chiropractic Check-Up for the Whole Family This October with Gonstead Chiropractic

Most of us don't think about our spines until something hurts. We get the oil changed on schedule, we take the kids for their check-ups, we get our teeth cleaned twice a year — but the spine usually waits until it's locked up and we can't turn our heads. National Chiropractic Health Month is a good reminder that the spine deserves the same kind of regular attention. Problems in the spine rarely start the day they begin to hurt. A joint that isn't moving right can go for weeks or months before it finally speaks up, and by then the muscles, nerves, and joints around it have been compensating for a long time. A check-up catches those problems early — for the grandparent who's gotten stiffer, the parent who carries the stress of the week in their shoulders, the teenager hunched over a phone, and the youngest ones who take a dozen tumbles a day.

What Is the Gonstead Method?

The Gonstead Method is one of the most thorough and precise systems of chiropractic analysis ever developed, and Dr. Dennis has practiced it for 30 years. Rather than adjusting the whole spine in a general way, Gonstead is built around finding the specific joint that's the true source of the problem. That means a careful case history, examination of the spine by hand, instrumentation that detects heat and inflammation along the spine, and, when appropriate, full-spine standing X-rays for the most accurate picture of how everything is lined up. Once the problem segment is identified, it's corrected with a specific, hands-on adjustment — no twisting, no wrenching, and nothing done to a joint that doesn't need it. Because it's so specific, Gonstead is well suited to every age, from children to seniors.

How a Gonstead Check-Up Helps Your Family

  1. Catches Problems Before They Hurt. A joint can stop moving well long before it causes pain. A thorough check-up finds it early.
  2. Specific Care for Every Age. Adjustments are tailored to the person on the table — gentle for children, careful for seniors, and precise for everyone in between.
  3. Keeps Growing Spines on Track. Kids fall, play, and carry heavy backpacks. Checking their spines helps them grow with good posture and normal motion.
  4. Helps Busy Parents Hold Up. Long workdays, carpools, and lifting little ones take a toll on the neck and low back. Regular care keeps small strains from becoming big ones.
  5. Supports Mobility as We Age. Joints that keep moving stay healthier. Regular adjustments help grandparents stay active and independent.
  6. Supports a Healthy Nervous System. The nerves that run every part of the body pass through the spine. A spine that moves well keeps that pathway clear.
  7. Builds Better Posture Habits. A check-up is a chance to talk about how you sit, sleep, lift, and work — small changes that add up.
  8. Reduces Reliance on Pain Medication. Addressing the cause of aches and stiffness means less reaching for the medicine cabinet.

Benefits at a Glance

  • Whole-Family Care: Safe, specific adjustments for kids, parents, and grandparents.
  • Thorough Evaluation: A careful exam finds the real source of the problem.
  • Gentle: No twisting or wrenching — a precise, comfortable adjustment.
  • Drug-Free: Care that works with the body instead of masking symptoms.
  • Time-Tested: Three decades of Gonstead experience in this office.

There's no better month than this one to get the whole family checked. Contact our office to schedule Gonstead check-ups for everyone in your household.

Man holding his head with a headache

Get Ahead of Fall Weather Headaches with BrainCore Neurofeedback

Fall in the mountains means big swings in the weather — a warm, sunny afternoon, a cold front rolling over the ridge, a rainy weekend, then another bright blue day. For a lot of people, those shifts come with a headache. Changes in barometric pressure, shorter days that throw off sleep, the busy fall schedule, and the stress of a packed calendar can all set off tension headaches and migraines in people who are prone to them. Many folks have spent years managing headaches with over-the-counter pills, dark rooms, and cancelled plans. If that sounds like you, it's worth knowing there is a drug-free approach that works on how the brain itself handles pain and stress.

Important: A sudden, severe headache — especially one that feels like the worst of your life, or that comes with confusion, weakness, numbness, vision changes, fever, a stiff neck, or follows a head injury — needs immediate medical attention. Headaches that are new, changing, or getting worse should always be evaluated by your physician first. BrainCore Neurofeedback is a complementary approach, not a replacement for medical care.

What Is BrainCore Neurofeedback?

BrainCore Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, drug-free form of brain training. It begins with a brain map — a qEEG — that measures your brainwave activity and shows where your brain may be out of balance. Then, during comfortable training sessions, sensors placed on the scalp read your brainwaves while you relax and watch a movie. When your brain moves toward a healthier, more balanced pattern, it receives gentle feedback through the movie's picture and sound. Over a series of sessions, the brain learns to settle into those healthier patterns on its own. Nothing is put into the brain — sensors only listen.

How BrainCore Neurofeedback Helps Headaches and Migraines

  1. Maps What's Going On. The qEEG brain map shows patterns of dysregulation that may be connected to headache frequency and intensity.
  2. Trains a Calmer, More Stable Brain. Many headache sufferers have an overactive, easily triggered nervous system. Neurofeedback helps the brain find steadier patterns.
  3. May Reduce Headache Frequency. Many people find their headaches come less often as the brain becomes better regulated.
  4. May Ease Headache Intensity. When headaches do come, many people find them less severe and easier to manage.
  5. Supports Better Sleep. Poor sleep is a common headache trigger, and a well-regulated brain tends to rest better — especially helpful as the days get shorter.
  6. Helps the Body Handle Stress. Stress is one of the most common triggers of tension headaches. A calmer brain handles a busy fall schedule with less strain.
  7. Drug-Free. No medication, no side effects to manage, and nothing that interferes with care from your physician.
  8. Pairs Well with Chiropractic Care. Tension in the neck and upper back often feeds headaches, so adjustments and neurofeedback work well together.

Benefits at a Glance

  • Non-Invasive: Sensors only listen — nothing is put into the brain.
  • Drug-Free: A natural approach to how the brain handles pain and stress.
  • Personalized: Training is based on your own brain map.
  • Relaxing: Most sessions simply mean watching a movie.
  • Complementary: Works alongside care from your physician.

Don't let headaches take the best weeks of fall from you. Contact our office to schedule a BrainCore brain map and find out whether neurofeedback is a good fit.

Pulse PEMF therapy

Recharge Your Energy as the Days Get Shorter with Pulse PEMF

By the first week of October, we've lost more than an hour of daylight since midsummer, and we'll lose plenty more before the clocks change. You feel it. It's dark when the alarm goes off, it's getting dark earlier on the drive home, and somewhere in the middle of the afternoon the tank runs low. Less sunlight, shorter nights of good sleep, and a full fall schedule add up to a kind of tiredness that coffee doesn't really fix. Energy starts in the cells — every cell in the body makes the energy it runs on — and when those cells are well supplied and working efficiently, you feel it all day long.

What Is Pulse PEMF?

Pulse PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy. It delivers gentle, low-frequency electromagnetic pulses through the body's tissues, energizing cells and encouraging them to function the way healthy cells should. Think of it as exercise for your cells — the pulses stimulate cellular metabolism, support circulation, and help the body's own processes work more efficiently. A session simply means relaxing on a comfortable mat or with an applicator placed over an area, fully clothed. Most people feel a mild, pleasant pulsing and nothing more. It's non-invasive, drug-free, and used by athletes and everyday folks alike.

How Pulse PEMF Helps You Recharge

  1. Supports Cellular Energy Production. PEMF supports the cell's ability to produce the energy it runs on — the foundation of how energetic you feel.
  2. Improves Circulation. Better blood flow delivers more oxygen and nutrients to tired muscles and tissues.
  3. Helps You Relax and Reset. Many people find a session calming, which helps the body shift out of a stressed, run-down state.
  4. Supports More Restful Sleep. Energy during the day depends on quality rest at night, and many people report sleeping better with regular sessions.
  5. Eases Tired, Achy Muscles. A long week leaves muscles tight and sore. PEMF helps them recover so you don't carry that fatigue into the weekend.
  6. Supports Recovery from a Busy Schedule. Work, ballgames, festivals, and yard work pile up in October. PEMF helps the body bounce back.
  7. Gentle Enough for Everyday Use. Sessions are comfortable and restful, so it's easy to make them part of a regular routine.
  8. Complements Your Adjustments. A well-functioning nervous system and well-energized cells work together for how you feel day to day.

Benefits at a Glance

  • Non-Invasive: No needles, no pills, nothing to take.
  • Relaxing: Most people find the sessions restful.
  • Whole-Body Support: Recharge everything at once or focus on one area.
  • Fast Sessions: Easily fits into a lunch break or a stop on the way home.
  • Drug-Free: Works with your body's own processes.

If the shorter days have you running on empty, let's help you recharge. Contact our office to schedule a Pulse PEMF session.

Standard Process Cholacol supplement

Support Healthy Digestion Through Comfort-Food Season with Cholacol®

October brings some of the best food of the year. Chili on a cool evening, pinto beans and cornbread, apple stack cake, homemade biscuits and gravy after an early morning outside, and a covered-dish dinner after the homecoming service. It's good eating — and it's rich eating. Heavier, higher-fat meals ask a lot of your digestive system, especially the gallbladder and the bile that helps break down fats. If fall meals leave you feeling heavy, bloated, or uncomfortable afterward, your body may need a little support processing fats. That's where Cholacol® from Standard Process comes in.*

What Is Cholacol®?

Cholacol® is a whole food–based supplement made by Standard Process, which has been producing supplements for practitioners for more than 90 years using ingredients grown largely on its own certified organic farm. Cholacol® combines bile salts with collinsonia root, a plant traditionally used to support digestion. Bile is what the body uses to break fats down into a form it can absorb, so Cholacol® is designed to support healthy fat digestion, healthy gallbladder function, and normal elimination.*

How Cholacol® Supports Your Health

  1. Supports Healthy Fat Digestion. Bile salts help break down dietary fats so the body can digest them comfortably.*
  2. Supports Healthy Gallbladder Function. Cholacol® is designed to support the organ that stores and releases bile.*

  6. Helps You Enjoy Fall Meals Comfortably. Support for digesting richer foods means fewer heavy, uncomfortable evenings.*
  7. Supports Overall Digestive Wellness. A digestive system that works well supports energy and well-being all around.*
  8. Complements Chiropractic Care. The nerves that support your digestive organs pass through the spine, so a healthy spine and a well-supported digestive system go hand in hand.*

Foot Levelers Single Pair Savings flyer - any custom orthotic for $249

Low Back Pain That Starts at Your Feet — Custom Orthotics for $249 with Single Pair Savings

When the low back hurts, the feet are usually the last place anyone looks. But your feet are the foundation of your whole body. Every step you take sends force up through the ankles, knees, and hips into the pelvis and low back. When one or more of the arches in your feet has dropped — which is very common — that foundation tilts. The pelvis tips to compensate, the low back takes on uneven stress, and a sore back that keeps coming back may have more to do with your feet than with your spine alone. Fall makes it more noticeable: longer days standing at ballgames and festivals, raking and hauling in the yard, and stiff boots that don't give the foot any support of their own. And through November 15, Foot Levelers is making it easier than ever to fix the foundation: any single pair of custom orthotics for just $249.

What Are Foot Levelers Orthotics?

Foot Levelers orthotics are custom-made Stabilizing Orthotics built from a 3D scan of your individual feet. Unlike a generic insole off the shelf — which typically addresses one arch, if any — they're designed to support all three arches of the foot, creating a balanced, level platform for the ankles, knees, hips, and spine stacked above them. They come in styles for work boots, hiking boots, athletic shoes, dress shoes, and everyday wear. We offer a free foot scan right here in the office, so you can see for yourself how your feet are holding you up.

How Foot Levelers Help Low Back Pain

  1. Levels the Foundation. Supporting all three arches brings the feet back to a balanced position so the body above them isn't built on a tilt.
  2. Keeps the Pelvis Level. When one arch drops more than the other, the pelvis tips. Custom support helps keep it even.
  3. Reduces Uneven Stress on the Low Back. A level pelvis means the joints and discs of the low back share the load evenly.
  4. Absorbs Shock with Every Step. Proper support helps cushion the impact that would otherwise travel up to the spine.
  5. Eases Strain from Long Days Standing. Ballgames, festivals, and standing jobs are easier on the back when the feet are supported.
  6. Helps Adjustments Hold. When the foundation stays level, the spine is more likely to stay where your adjustment put it.
  7. Supports Better Posture. A stable base makes it easier for the whole body to stand and move in good alignment.
  8. Works in the Shoes You Already Wear. Styles for boots, sneakers, and dress shoes mean support goes wherever you do.

Benefits at a Glance

  • Custom Made: Built from a scan of your own feet, not a generic mold.
  • $249 for Any Pair: Single Pair Savings covers every style — through November 15 only.
  • Free Scan: No cost to find out what your feet actually need.
  • Multiple Styles: Work boot, hiking, casual, athletic, and dress options.
  • Whole-Body Benefit: Support that reaches the knees, hips, and back.

If your low back keeps coming back, let's check the foundation. Contact our office to schedule a free Foot Levelers scan and take advantage of Single Pair Savings before it ends on November 15.
